Zonta Club offers non-traditional student scholarship

The Zonta Club of the Oneida Area is taking applications for the Mildred Ridley Scholarship for a woman enrolled in a post-secondary program with a goal to enter or re- enter the work force and who lives in the Canastota, Oneida, Stockbridge Valley or VVS school districts.

The cash award of $750 is aimed at non-traditional students, women going back to school to improve their lives and the lives of their families.

In addition to the residency requirement, applicants must have a grade average of C or better and must have completed at least half of her program. The application must be typed or word processed; a letter of recommendation from a teacher in the main subject area and a letter of recommendation from the student’s advisor must be attached.

All applications must postmarked no later than May 5 and sent to Mildred Ridley Scholarship Fund, Zonta Club of the Oneida Area, PO Box 199, Wampsville, NY 13163.

The award recipient will be notified by the end of May.

The grant is in memory of Mildred Ridley, a Zonta Club member and an elementary school principal in the Oneida area for many years who set money aside in her will for a scholarship to be given out each year to a local woman who is bettering herself through education. It is the mission of the Oneida Area Zonta Club to advance the status of women by supporting them in reaching their educational goals.
