Youth descend on senior citizens’ yards for some spring cleaning

Some 450 youth volunteers helped clean the yards of 100 senior citizens during the 11th Annual Oneida County Intergenerational Spring Clean-Up this past weekend.

The initiative unites youth from area colleges, school districts and youth organizations with senior citizens o deliver general yard clean-up services. It is a partnership between the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care.

During the Intergenerational Fall Clean-Up this past October, 630 youth volunteers throughout the county raked and collected leaves, swept porches, sidewalks and driveways and brought light refuse to the curb at 120 senior citizen households.

Planning for this year’s fall clean-up has begun. Any youth organization interested in volunteering should contact the Oneida County Youth Bureau at 315-798-5027. Any senior citizen interested in having their yard cleaned should contact the Oneida County Office for the Aging and Continuing Care at 315-798-5456.
