VILLAGE OF VERNON — A young and aggressive bull is on the loose near Bartholomew Park and Vernon Downs, and the public is being warned to be cautious in the area.
Village Police issued a warning on social media Thursday that the aggressive bull was last seen in a wooded area between the two locations. Bartholomew Park has since been closed to all foot traffic.
Village Mayor Joseph D’Agostino said the animal remains on the loose this morning after law enforcement officials tried unsuccessfully to corral it Thursday evening.
“He got agitated and broke a couple boards down and got loose,” D’Agostino said this morning.
The young bull was being handled at Empire Livestock Marketing on Ruth Street Thursday when it got loose, the mayor said. No people are believed to have been injured after the animal got free. The mayor said a truck and possible a sheriff’s squad car did take some damage.
