Worthington Industries’ Rome facility partnered with the local Feed Our Vets organization to conduct a food drive at its site, the company said.
During the drive, which was September-November, employees were encouraged to bring in canned goods and other non-perishable items to donate “in an effort to give back to the community,” said Valarie Reinig, human resources manager at Worthington’s Rome site.
The food items were collected Friday by Feed Our Vets, Reinig added.
The Feed Our Vets organization, which is about 10 years old, has provided meals for over 20,000 veterans. Reinig said.
Worthington has 20 veterans at its Rome facility, she noted, and recently celebrated Veterans Day to recognize those at the site who have served.
She added “with Veterans Day and Thanksgiving here in November, we felt it was the perfect time to have Feed Our Vets come to collect our donations.”
Worthington’s philosophy is to “treat our employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders as we would like to be treated,” said Reinig.
She added “we encourage our employees to join our philosophy by helping out in the communities where they live and work. We care about where we live and work and we strive to improve quality of life through volunteering and supporting worthwhile community causes.”
The company usually conducts one community event per quarter, she observed.
