CANASTOTA — The Madison County Office for the Aging will host an education workshop with the Alzheimer’s Association to help people learn effective communication strategies to use with people suffering from dementia.

Communication is more than just talking and listening — it’s also about sending and receiving messages through attitude, tone of voice, facial expressions and body language, event organizers said. People with dementia can lose their ability to use words and families need new ways to communicate.

Join the Office for the Aging to explore how communication takes place when someone has dementia and learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate.

The workshop will be on Thursday, March 12 from 9 to 10 am at Madison County Office for the Aging, 138 Dominic Bruno Blvd Canastota NY 13032. Register by calling Melanie at Office for the Aging 315-697-5700 extension 215.
