WATSON — A 32-year-old woman was rescued from the woods near Otter Creek after being thrown from a horse, according to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Authorities said the woman, from Erie County, had been riding on the Otter Creek horse trails in the Independence Wild Forest around 1 p.m. Sept. 14 when she was thrown from her horse. The woman suffered a possible spine injury and could not be easily moved.

The Martinsburg Fire Department responded to the scene and put the woman on a back board, while a state forest ranger brought a six-wheeler and customized litter carrier to take the woman out of the woods to waiting medical personnel.
