LEE — A 61-year-old woman was killed when her car crashed into a utility pole and a tree off Brookfield Road in Lee early Tuesday morning, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies said Shirley A. Fox, 61, of Lee, was eastbound on Brookfield Road at about 7 a.m. when her 2006 Chevrolet Malibu went off the north shoulder. Deputies said they are still trying to determine what caused Fox to lose control of her vehicle.

Fox was pronounced dead at the scene after lifesaving efforts failed, authorities stated.

The crash remains under investigation at the intersection of Brookfield and Skinner roads, authorities said. The crash into the utility pole knocked out power for dozens of homes in the area, and National Grid was on scene to restore power by mid-morning.
