Woman accused of throwing cat out of car window in parking lot of Utica animal shelter

A Utica woman has been charged with throwing a cat out of her car window in the parking lot of the Stevens-Swan Humane Society.

Rebecca L. Sanders, 25, pulled into the humane society parking lot on Horatio Street in March and hurled a cat out of the window, according to the CNY SPCA. Authorities said Sanders then drove away.

“She threw a cat out of a car window,” said SPCA Chief Investigator William Pulaski. “The cat is fine.”

After the incident was shared with local media, Pulaski said his office got several tips as to Sanders’ identity.

He said this led to Sanders being taken into custody on April 17 on a charge of abandonment of an animal, a misdemeanor.

She was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Deerfield Town Court on May 14.
