Wires stop truck from rolling after vehicle leaves roadway


TOWN OF MARSHALL — A woman was spared possible further injury when her crashing pickup truck managed to snag on some wires off Canning Factory Road Wednesday afternoon, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said Melissa Phillips, 32, of Waterville, was westbound at about 3:15 p.m. when her 2017 Chevy pickup truck crossed the oncoming lane and went off the south shoulder. Deputies said the truck went into a ditch nose first and almost began to roll end-over-end, but the rear of the truck caught some overhead wires, stopping it from rolling.

Phillips complained of head and neck pain and was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation and charges are possible, according to the
