Wire blamed for power outage on Utica's north side
UTICA — Electricity was out for nearly 600 National Gird customers in north Utica on Friday, shutting down traffic lights and darkening businesses for about an hour midday, according to emergency personnel.
“We had a wire that came down on Lee Street,” said National Grid spokesperson Jared Paventi on Friday. Lee Street runs between North Genesee and Washington streets, just south of the Mohawk River.
The outage started at about 11:19 a.m. and was repaired in an hour and 10 minutes, Paventi stated. Law enforcement helped to direct traffic after several street lights went out. Paventi said a total of 570 customers were without power.
