Wilbur “WW” or “Whistling Willie” Jones, 77, a lifelong resident of Lee Center/Rome area, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2019.
He was born December 9, 1941, a son of the late Hubert and Marian Lawton Jones. Wilbur graduated from Rome Free Academy and served in the Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked at Revere Copper Products, retiring after 37 years of service. He was an active member and PER of the Rome Elks Lodge as well as being an active member of the Masons and American Legion.
Wilbur was an avid NASCAR fan and traveled with driver, Richie Evans, as part of his pit crew for many years. He continued to follow NASCAR all of his life.
Wilbur is survived by his brother, Philip Jones; beloved niece, Crystal Suminguit, niece, Lindsay Swab and their families; and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Jones Flint.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 7 p.m., at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., prior to the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Point Rock United Methodist Church.
