ROUNDUP: Whitestown, Ilion and Smith Post; also Giruzzi tosses no-hitter

Whitestown Post got two shut out wins in District V American Legion baseball, 7-0 over Utica Post Friday and 9-0 over Oriskany Post Sunday. The Sunday win was a combined no-hitter by Kody Czternastek and Dominic Bullis.

On Sunday, Czternastek improved to 3-0 with the win. He went 4 2/3 innings and allowed one walk with five strikeouts. Bullis went the final 2 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.

Brian Zbytniewski was 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Colin Skermont had two triples and scored once. Josh Suber singled and doubled with a run and two stolen bases. Mike Scalise singled, doubled and drove in a run.

Statistics for Oriskany were not provided.

Friday, Caleb Miller went the distance for Whitestown on the mound, allowing three hits and striking out eight. He is now 4-0 on the season. At the plate Miller singled, doubled, scored twice and drove in a run.

Also for Whitestown, Skermont was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Colin White singled, doubled, scored and stole two bases.

Whitestown improved to 15-2, and is 14-2 in the district. The team is scheduled to play it’s first playoff game at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at DeLutis Field in Rome against an opponent to be determined.

Oriskany, 4-12, hosted Miller Post Monday in the District V playoffs. Results were not available at press time.

Utica is 8-8, and plays at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday against host Adrean Post at Notre Dame High School in a district playoff game.

Ilion Post wins pair

Ilion Post defeated Oriskany Post 14-2 Friday then Noah Carpenter threw a no-hitter in a 9-0 win against Miller Post of Canastota Saturday.

On Friday, Jeff DeSarro doubled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs for Ilion. Carpenter had two hits, three RBIs and a run. Alan Meszler had two hits, three runs and an RBI. Chase Regan and Brayton Landon each had a hit and two RBIs.

Cole Maxwell earned the win, going four innings in the game shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule. He allowed two hits and an earned run with a walk and four strikeouts.

Ty Zizzi threw a complete game for Oriskany, allowing 12 earned runs on nine hits and five walks. He struck out one.

Keagan Kraeger and Michael Catalano each had a hit and an RBI for Oriskany.

Carpenter struck out 15 in the win Saturday.

Tanner Warren had a single and triple, scored and drove in one. DeSarro had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Ayden Miller singled and doubled with two RBIs and an run. Meszler singled and doubled, with an RBI.

Miller’s John Burnett took the loss, giving up a run in three innings. He allowed three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Ilion hosts New Hartford Post at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Central Valley Academy in the playoffs.

Miller Post played at Oriskany Monday. Results were not available at press time.

Smith powers to two wins

Smith Post of Rome won Friday 20-4 at home against Moran Post of Camden then beat host Adrean Post of Utica 15-5 Sunday.

On Friday, Isiah Sexton doubled and tripled for Smith, driving in three and scoring four times. Damon Campanaro tripled with two runs and two RBIs. Derek Holmes had two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Kyle Williamson had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Jack Lawless, PJ Summa, Rinaldo DiCastro and Jake Premo all had a hit and two RBIs each.

Campanaro got the win. Pitching statistics for Smith were not provided.

Statistics for Moran were not provided.

On Sunday, Holmes had five hits including a double, with seven RBIs and two runs. Campanaro had three hits, two of them doubles. He scored four runs. Premo had two hits, four runs and an RBI. Sexton had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored.

Brandson Sharron earned the win for Smith, going 5 2/3 innings.

Statistics for Adrean were not provided.

Smith hosts Moran at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at RFA Stadium field in the playoffs.

Adrean hosts Utica Post at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at Notre Dame High School in the playoffs.

Giruzzi tosses no-hitter

Parker Giruzzi threw a no-hitter for Utica Post Thursday in the team’s 6-0 road win over Miller Post.

Giruzzi went all seven innings, allowing just a walk. He struck out 10 batters.

Utica scored three first inning runs, which was more than enough for Giruzzi.

Joseph Gentile was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Utica. Joshua Duval had a single and triple, scored twice and drove in a run. Ty Bonner tripled, scored twice and had an RBI.

Jesse DeMaintenon took the loss for Miller, going 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs, five of them earned.

He surrendered seven hits and walked one with seven strikeouts.
