Whitesboro players earn honors with Utica


Whitesboro grads Joe Crossley and Ryan Cardone were among nine members of the Utica University baseball team to earn Empire 8 All-Conference selections, the conference announced Wednesday.

Crossley, the starting centerfielder, earned first team honors and was the second-highest vote getter for Empire 8 Player of the Year. The junior had marks of .362 batting average/.472 on-base percentage/.526 slugging percentage through 34 games. His batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage rank within the top-10 in the E8. He has also totaled two home runs this season and a career-high 25 runs while owning a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Cardone, a sophomore, was named as a second team starting pitcher and was the second-highest vote getter for the league’s Pitcher of the Year award.

This season, Cardone leads Utica and is tied for second in the E8 with five wins (5-1) while his 2.08 ERA is second in the conference and is the seventh-lowest for a single season in program history.

In 52 innings pitched and nine appearances with 199 batters faced, opponents have hit .236. He also struck out 44 batters and had 10 walks. 

Other first team selections include: Shamariah McCullough and Michael Muentener. On the second team: Zac Cronk, Brendan May, Joe Battista, Jake Mangino. Noah Barber was the team’s Sportsman of the Year honoree.
