A Utica University women’s lacrosse team led by the high-scoring duo of sophomore Grace Stuhlman (Whitesboro) and senior Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro) is riding a six-game winning streak into this week’s Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
The third-seeded Pioneers (10-6) , who ended their regular season with a 13-9 win over SUNY Canton and Saturday’s 20-7 win over Keuka College, play a semifinal game at No. 2 seed Nazareth College (9-7) at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Stuhlman became the fourth player in program history to score 50 goals in a single season when she scored five times in Saturday’s regular-season finale. She has 54 goals and 16 assists.
DeCondo, who tied a career high when she scored seven times in the win over Canton, has 48 goals and 18 assists. She has played 49 career games and ranks third in program history in total points (170), sixth in assists (46) and seventh in goals (124).
Utica junior Abigail Gerling (Whitesboro) scored a career-high five goals against Keuka and has 18 goals and seven assists, and sophomore Alexis Alteri (Clinton) has nine goals.
Utica will be trying to avenge last month’s 11-9 regular-season loss to Nazareth. The winner advances to Saturday’s Empire 8 final hosted by the highest remaining seed.
Top-seeded and nationally-ranked St. John Fisher University is 7-0 in the conference and 14-2 overall, and the Cardinals host fourth-seeded Hartwick College (10-4) in Wednesday’s other semifinal.
St. John Fisher sophomore Mary Fiorentino (New Hartford) has 24 goals and 20 assists. She scored three times in a 19-2 win over Medaille University, and she had two goals and one assist when the Cardinals extended their winning streak to nine games with a 19-4 romp over Hartwick in Saturday’s regular-season finale.
SUNY Oswego senior Madison Davis (Whitesboro) has helped her women’s lacrosse team win a program-record 13 games, and the Lakers (13-4) play Geneseo in Wednesday’s State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semifinals. Davis, who had a goal and an assist in Oswego’s 22-9 quarterfinal win over SUNY Oneonta, has 23 goals and 18 assists.
SUNY Morrisville senior Aria Treadway (Rome/RFA) and the Mustangs (4-1, 7-8) play a United East semifinal game against Mount Aloysius College (3-2, 4-7) on Friday. Treadway has 28 goals and 13 assists this season, and has raised her career totals to 108 goals and 22 assists. Morrisville’s freshman goalie Rebecca Thomas (Marcy/Whitesboro) has a 7-7 record and 116 saves in 15 games.
Medaille University sophomore Katelynn Deveans (Clinton) scored a career-high eight goals to lead the Mavericks to a 17-5 win over Alfred University in their season finale. Medaille finished 9-5 overall and Deveans was third in Empire 8 scoring with 57 goals.
SUNY Poly junior Kaitlin Kopcza (Whitesboro) finished her season with six goals in a 16-12 loss to Maine Maritime and four goals in Sunday’s 19-7 loss to Husson University. Kopcza was sixth in the North Atlantic Conference in scoring with 43 goals in 14 games.
In men’s lacrosse, head coach Brandon Misiaszek (New Hartford) and his SUNY Poly Wildcats will take a four-game winning streak into the North Atlantic Conference Tournament. SUNY Poly, 7-1 in the conference and 10-4 overall, hosts SUNY Delhi (7-8) in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Alfred University ended an 11-4 regular season with Saturday’s 18-7 win over Utica University.
