ROME — Madison County Historian Matt Urtz will present a program titled “When Hops Were King” at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Rome Historical Society, 200 Church St.

This program will explore the local history of hops, the importance of Madison, Oneida and Otsego counties in their production, why the industry failed, and the recent rebirth of hops farming in the region.
