WESTMORELAND — An 18-year-old was hospitalized after his sports-utility vehicle crashed into a utility pole on Bartlett Road Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff’s deputies said Dakota Collins, of Westmoreland, was southbound at 1 p.m. when his 2005 Nissan Murano went off the west shoulder, hit a ditch and then crashed into the pole.

Deputies said Collins was extricated from the vehicle.

Collins was air-lifted to University Hospital in Syracuse in serious condition, with arm, chest and head injuries, authorities said.

No tickets have been issued so far, deputies stated.

The investigation is continuing, the authorities added.
