TOWN OF WESTMORELAND — A vehicle storage barn was destroyed by fire on Old Oneida Road early this morning.
Fire officials on the scene said no one was injured. The barn burned to the ground.
“We were milking and we came out and saw the flames,” said Brad Hilts, who owns the farm at 5272 Old Oneida Road. He said his brother owns the storage barn.
“By the time we saw it, it was all aflame and we couldn’t get anything out,” Hilts stated.
Volunteers from at least five departments responded after the alarm was raised at about 6:40 a.m. The flames took less than an hour to get under control. Westmoreland Fire Chief Jeff Grube said no one was injured.
Hilts said the barn had an old half and a newer half. The old half stored machinery like tractors, a skid steer and a four-wheeler, while the newer portion held chickens. He said he believed the chickens escaped the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Westmoreland, Verona, Vienna, Vernon and Stanwix Heights fire departments responded.
