Westmoreland starts with big baseball win over rival Oriskany
WESTMORELAND — Westmoreland beat Oriskany 11-2 at home in both teams’ season opener in non-league baseball Tuesday.
The Bulldogs ran out to a big early lead with five runs in the first, two in the second and three in the third.
Hunter Kierpiec (1-0) got the win on the mound, allowing three hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. He struck out nine. Mike Scalise went the final inning, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout.
Caleb Miller had a double and triple with two runs and a run batted in for the Bulldogs. Anthony Sawanec had a single and double with a run, three RBIs and a stolen base. Jerry Fiorini double and drove in two with two runs scored and a stolen base.
Christian Grant had a single and double for Oriskany and Noah Narolis doubled and scored.
Oriskany pitching statistics were not submitted.
Westmoreland was set to host Clinton Wednesday in a non-league game. Results were not available at press time. Oriskany hosted New York Mills Wednesday in a Center State Conference league game. Results were not available at press time.
