ROME — A 16-year-old is accused of attacking a woman with a shovel and then stealing her purse on McRae Street, according to the Rome Police Department.

Police said the Westernville teenager and the adult woman were familiar with one another, and were at her residence in the 300 block of McRae St. around 1 a.m. Sunday. Police said the teen struck the woman in the head with a shovel and stole her purse.

The woman was treated at Rome Health and the teen was taken into custody later that day. His identity was not released due to his young age.

The 16-year-old is charged with one count of third-degree robbery, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in Family Court.
