Western tornado documentary to premier at Oneida County History Center
UTICA — Oneida County History Center, 1608 Genesee St., will host a premier of the Westernville Tornado Documentary at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
On July 7, 2021, a devastating EF1 tornado with winds up to 105 miles per hour hit the small village of Westernville. The storm ripped the steeple off the Presbyterian church, damaged homes, and destroyed hundreds of trees.
People are invited to join the Oneida County History Center for an exclusive screening of the locally-produced documentary that tells a gripping story of damage and healing.
The recovery from this hardship brought the residents together in unimaginable ways. OCHC volunteer Dennis Dewey produced the film in partnership with the Westernville Historical Society. Dewey, who also produced Utica: An Olmstead City, will be on hand for questions and commentary. Refreshments will be served.
The Oneida County History Center is a private, not-for-profit educational institution dedicated to preserving the history, heritage and culture of the Greater Mohawk Valley for present and future generations. Admission to this program is free, but donations are encouraged.
