Western Historical Society to hear talk on early settler

The Town of Western Historical Society meets at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 at Liberty Hall on Main Street in Westernville.

The meeting will feature Peter Hayes presenting a talk “Life and Times of William Kerin Constable Sr.” Constable was the father of the builder of Constable Hall. He purchased the Macoun land grant in Lewis and Jefferson Counties. The three decades of William Constable’s adult life overlap the founding of our country. We will examine his adventures and visions —fur trading, the Revolutionary War, the founding of global trade with China, financial panics and the birth of New York’s commercial capitalism, and upstate New York land speculation on a massive scale.

Hayes is the chairman of the 20th anniversary events for Constable Hall. He has an abiding interesting history of all types and serves in several local history organizations. Refreshment will be served.
