WESTERNVILLE — The monthly meeting of the town of Western Historical Society will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Liberty Hall, 9219 Main St.

Larry Ehlinger, of the EARTH Metal Detecting Club of Central New York, will give a presentation on all aspects of metal detecting, event organizers have announced.

He will detail all aspects of metal detecting including equipment, techniques and permissions to detect on private lands, according to the event organizers.

In his 25 years of detecting, Ehlinger has made a number of historical finds in the area, including remains of an Indian campsite and a horde of Victorian jewelry buried in the late 1800’s. He also participated in a metal detecting trip to England in 2011.

Ehlinger is a lifelong Rome resident who worked in management at Woods Valley Ski Area in Westernville until his retirement in 2012.

Organizers invite members of the public to come and “enjoy an evening of local history (and) bring a friend.” Refreshments will be served.
