The Town of Lewis Library will present “The Fisherman and His Wife” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the Town of Lewis Town Park, corner of Osceola Rd. and Mud Lake Rd. The Rev Theater (formerly the Merry-Go -Round Theater ) will be putting on the performance, based on a fairytale by the Brothers Grimm. The fishermen and his wife learn that “getting everything we want is not nearly as important as appreciating everything we have.” Bring a lawn chair or blanket, and your family and friends, and enjoy a free and entertaining family-oriented performance.

Then, from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, the Town of Lewis Library will present a concert by Broken Rule, a country/southern rock band, also at the Town Park. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy the free entertainment.

Both of these events are made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program, a regrant program of the NYS Council of the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature, and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.

Congratulations to my great-nephew, Jacob Strain, for finishing 197th in the 15K Boilermaker. It was Jacob’s first time running the Boilermaker. Jacob is 16. He attends Adirondack Central School and runs track for them.

More local history - Winfield Trainor always wanted the best for the rural boys and girls, the best teachers, the best possible school buildings, and the best and most modern course of study. Lewis County and New York State owe an everlasting debt to Mr. Trainor, for it is due to his interest and influence that Lewis County boys and girls were first able to gain an education equivalent to that of children in more populous areas. The smallest graduation class of West Leyden High School was in 1930 with just one student and the largest was in 1965 with 35 students.

Happy birthday on July 21 to Doug McCanney and Gwenevere Cormier; July 22, Tabitha Mathis; July 25, Sheila Williams; and July 26, Kelley Weiler.

Also, happy birthday wishes to my niece, Marion Gray, on July 26.

Happy anniversary on July 20 to Scott and Stacy Sadlowski; and July 22 to John and Missie Norrs and Brian and Nancy DuMont.

Happy anniversary also to my niece and her husband, MaRissa and Dave Strain, on July 22.

Have a great week. Remember to count your blessings.
