ROME — To recognize Gun Violence Awareness Month in June, the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley invites everyone to wear the color orange in their clothing on the weekend of June 2 to 4.

“I believe that engaging kids in positive programming and experiences and by demonstrating morals, ethics by the way we talk with them and interact with them all helps curb gun violence,” said YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley CEO Hank Leo, a member of the YMCA’s NYS Alliance task force on gun violence prevention.

“The mission of the YMCA enhances belonging and sense of community, and through our community outreach and youth programs, we are in a critical position to build intentional relationships with those who are vulnerable and may be affected by gun violence.”

The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley area serves the Rome, Oneida and Whitesboro areas.
