TOWN OF AVA — A Rome man was injured while inspecting a pickup truck he considered buying in Ava Monday morning, according to law enforcement officials.

Sheriff’s deputies said Frank Mellace, 87, was visiting a friend on Route 26 shortly before 9 a.m. Monday, and he was standing outside of an unoccupied Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck.

The sheriff’s deputies said the truck was running and it went into gear on its own and then, they added, that the vehicle
started moving backwards and Mellace was propelled into a parked vehicle nearby.

Mellace suffered injuries
to his torso, and he was
treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica, authorities stated.
