Warriors’ offense takes it to host Holland Patent


The Whitesboro offense piled up 16 runs in a 16-2 win at Holland Patent Thursday in non-league baseball action.

The Warriors scored three in the top of the first, then Holland Patent responded with its only two runs of the game in the bottom of the inning. Whitesboro scored a run in the second to make it 4-2 and the team never looked back. The team exploded for 10 runs in the fifth inning.

The Warriors had 18 hits, led by Ty Montrose, who had three hits, three runs batted in and scored twice. Ryan Cook had three hits, two runs and two RBIs. Colin Skermont, DaShawn Hutchinson, Max Pawlowski, Brian Zbytniewski and Jacob Scalise all had two hits.

Cook (1-0) was also the winning pitcher.

Alex Hoole (1-1) took the loss for HP on the mound.

Alex McLaughlin had a two-RBI hit for HP. Hoole had a hit, a run and two stolen bases.

Whitesboro is now 2-0 and was scheduled to host Baldwinsville today in non-league play.

HP falls to 2-3 overall and travels to Oneida Monday for a 1 p.m. start in a non-league game.

RFA falls to West Genny

The Rome Free Academy baseball team fell behind 3-0 after an inning and lost 7-1 at West Genesee in non-league play Thursday.

West Genny starter Ryan Klementowski went five innings for the win, allowing one unearned run on three hits and three walks.

RFA starter Marco Macri went 3 2/3 innings while allowing four runs, three of them earned, on three hits and four walks. He struck out seven. Eli Marrero threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on a hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Mike Flint threw one hitless, scoreless inning with a strikeout.

On offense for RFA, Sonepith Keoviengsamay II, Jack Anderegg and Richie Artigiani had a hit each. Marrero scored the lone run.

RFA is now 1-2 on the season and will host non-league opponent Baldwinsville at 11 a.m. Saturday at RFA Stadium field.

Oneida wins big

The Oneida baseball team won 22-0 at Utica-Notre Dame Thursday in the Tri-Valley League. Game details were not provided.

Oneida, now 1-0, was scheduled to host Vernon-Verona-Sherrill in a TVL game today at 1 p.m. Notre Dame will travel to Camden for a TVL game at 5 p.m. Monday.
