SHERRILL — The Sherrill Garden Club invites Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School District students in grades 1-5 to participate in this year’s Smokey the Bear & Woodsy Owl Poster Contest.

The club will hold an informational meeting at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Sherrill-Kenwood Free Library, 543 Sherrill Road. Rules, drawing paper and labels will be given out at the meeting. Refreshments will be served.

Detailed poster contest information and rules will also be available at the library after Oct 1 for anyone unable to attend the meeting. Completed posters are to be returned by Friday, Nov. 18 to the library.

The annual contest is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service and National Garden Clubs, Inc. to offer students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of wildfire prevention and conservation. The Sherrill Garden Club has sponsored the contest locally for several years. Club members will judge the posters submitted at each grade level and then bring the winning posters to be judged by District 5.

For more information, call Bernadette VanVulkenburg at 315-263-7138.
