VERONA — Vernon-Verona-Sherrill High School senior Tida Niles of the music department was selected to the All-Eastern Ensemble and performed last weekend at the Eastern Division Honors Festival in Pittsburgh, Pa., the school district announced.
Niles rehearsed and performed with conductor Rollo Dilworth of Temple University for the All-Eastern Mixed Choir. The choir includes 320 students from states in the northeast.
The honors festival event, from April 5-7, was sponsored by the National Association for Music Education. Overall, 600 students participated from schools across the east coast.
Students selected for the All-Eastern Mixed Choir must have previously been selected to participate in their state’s All-State Choir, said the VVS district. Niles had been selected to sing in the NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) All-State Mixed Chorus in 2017 and the NYSSMA All-State Treble Choir in 2018. Selection to those groups is based on solo performances graded by a NYSSMA adjudicator the previous year.
VVS Middle School and High School Choral Director Adam Chandler described the Pittsburgh event as a “wonderful opportunity.”
He noted the opportunity for Niles to “work collaboratively with other young musicians from schools outside of New York and gain valuable experience by working with Dr. Rollo Dilworth.”
