VVS cranks out 16 hits and 15 runs in baseball victory


The Vernon-Verona-Sherrill baseball team exploded for 15 runs on 16 hits in beating New Hartford 15-5 on Friday on the road in a Tri-Valley League contest.

Blake VanDreason went five innings without allowing a run on the mound and had three extra base hits for the Red Devils.

Tyler Rotach got hits in all five at-bats, including a double, stole a base, scored twice and drove in four for VVS.

VanDreason had two triples and homer while scoring four runs and driving in three. Alex Kipp and Ryan Shantal each had two hits and two RBIs.

VanDreason struck out three and allowed six hits in five scoreless innings for the win.

HP improves to 5-0

Holland Patent beat West Canada Valley 10-3 in a Center State Conference contest to remain unbeaten.

Jeff Sobel got the win on the mound for the 5-0 Golden Knights.

Joe Diana had two hits for the Knights and drove in two runs. Jake Beer, Noah DiMarco and Conner Stalker all had a hit and an RBI. Sobel had a double and drove in two.

Oriskany scores late to win

With the game tied after six innings, Oriskany scored four in the top of the seventh and held on to beat Frankfort-Schuyler 8-6 on the road in a Center State crossover game to push their record to 3-0.

The game was tied 4-4 with one inning left. Oriskany scored four times in the top of the seventh, then Frankfort game back with two but fell two runs short.

Matt Enos and Hunter Pratt each doubled for the Redskins, and Brandon Reid had three hits and scored. Colton Davis had three hits and drove in two. Kegan Kraeger had two hits and two RBIs.

Kraeger started the game and allowed two earned runs and four hits while striking out four.

Steven Armstrong came in to pitch the final three innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits with a strikeout to earn the win.
