Verona pair receive Scherz scholarship

Two students have been awarded the eighth annual Fred Scherz Sr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer Community Service, Fred Scherz Jr., councilman on the Verona Town Board, announced.

Scherz selected: Racheal Cadrette and Olivia Musacchio, both from the Town of Verona, as the co-winners.

Cadrette has volunteered for the Tour de Cure, the Special Olympics, Adopt a Highway and Math Buddies.

Musacchio has volunteered for the Town of Verona Summer Park Program, the Special Olympics, Turning Stone Resort and Casino Races and Vacation Bible School.

As co-winners of this award, Cadrette and Musacchio each received a certificate of accomplishment and a check for $125.

“Upon reviewing this year’s applications, I narrowed it down to Ms. Cadrette and Ms. Musacchio,” said Scherz. “After a few weeks of trying to choose a single winner, I came to the conclusion that both were worthy, as it’s obvious Racheal and Olivia both care about not only the Verona community, but the surrounding areas as well.”

“I congratulate Racheal and Olivia for not only winning the scholarship, but for also setting a great example for others to follow,” Scherz added.
