VARSITY BASKETBALL: Oriskany and Sauquoit game, Dolgeville opens strong, Oneida falls
Strong second quarter fuels Oriskany past Sauquoit Valley
Tied 10-10 after a quarter at Sauquoit Valley Wednesday, the Oriskany girls basketball team surged ahead to a 24-13 halftime lead in a 44-30 win in the Center State Conference.
Jordyn Coleman led Oriskany with 13 points and Megan Wright scored 12.
Alaina Weaver led all scorers with 16 for Sauquoit. Makayla Land scored eight and had 14 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.
Oriskany (5-6) plays at 11 a.m. Saturday at Stockbridge Valley in non-league play.
Sauquoit (0-9) played a league game at Frankfort-Schuyler Thursday. Results were not available at press time.
Dolgeville opens strong in win
Kerisa Van Olst’s 18 points and a double-double from Payton Comstock powered the Dolgeville girls basketball team past visiting Adirondack 49-33 Wednesday in the Center State.
The Blue Devils ran out to a 13-5 lead in the first quarter and then outscored the Wildcats by 15 in the third quarter.
Van Olst added seven rebounds and three assists. Comstock had 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Holly Miller led Adirondack with nine points and Raquel Paschke scored eight.
The Widcats (4-6) play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sauquoit in the league. Dolgeville (7-3) hosts Canajoharie at 7 p.m. Saturday in a non-league game.
Oneida falls on the road
The Oneida girls basketball team lost 48-31 at Christian Brothers Academy Wednesday.
Myah Rainbow led Oneida with 12 points. Kennedy Curro added eight points.
Chianna Williams led all scorers with 13 for CBA.
Oneida (5-4) hosts RFA in the league at 6:30 tonight.
