Utican accused of sexual abuse

A 40-year-old Utica man is accused of sexually abusing a girl under the age of 13 over the course of several months.

Michael A. Rios had ongoing sexual contact with a girl under the age of 13 over the course of several months in the City of Utica, according to Inv. Frederick Bruzzese III of the county Child Advocacy Center. A warrant was issued for Rios’ arrest and authorities said he was located in Bloomington, Illinois, where he was taken into custody as a fugitive from justice.

Authorities said Rios waived extradition and was brought back to Oneida County, where he was charged with one count of third-degree criminal sexual act. Rios was arraigned in court and was sent to county jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or bond. He is scheduled to reappear in court.

An order of protection was filed on behalf of the victim, who has also been offered counseling through the CAC.
