Utica woman charged with stealing purse
UTICA — A 45-year-old woman has been accused of stealing a purse from a parked car on Elizabeth Street in Utica, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said the victim had parked in the 900 block of Elizabeth Street around 11:50 a.m. in order to make a quick stop at a residence. In the time it took her to come back out, police said Allita Pearson, of Utica, had gone into her vehicle and grabbed her purse.
The victim checked security camera footage from the home and caught the theft on the recording, police said. Officers viewed the video and immediately recognized Pearson from prior encounters with law enforcement.
The purse contained cash, credit cards and other property. Police said the purse was found a short distance away, ditched on the side of the street with the cash missing.
Pearson is charged with one count of felony fourth-degree grand larceny, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
