Utica woman accused of setting fire to floor mat
UTICA — A Utica woman is accused of setting fire to a floor mat at the Kennedy Plaza Apartments very early Monday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Doretha Rolle, 47, set fire to a hallway floor mat in the apartment building and then started pushing it underneath an apartment door. Police said the resident inside the apartment was awake and saw the fire, and immediately ran to the door to put it out.
The victim recognized Rolle as she ran for the elevators, police stated. She was located and taken into custody.
Rolle is charged with one count of fourth-degree arson, police said. She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
