Utica teen charged with stolen credit card
UTICA — A Utica teenager was found with a stolen credit card and ID after causing a traffic hazard on a bicycle on Eagle Street on Thursday, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Abdilahi Mahdi, 18, was pedaling in and out of the roadway in the 600 block of Eagle Street on Jan. 5, disrupting the flow of traffic. Officers stopped Mahdi and questioned him, and police said he refused to answer questions or provide his identity.
Mahdi was taken into custody for several traffic violations and he was brought back to the police station. Police said a search of Mahdi's person uncovered a credit card and ID that did not belong to him. Police said they called the proper owner and they were unaware the items were missing, and that Mahdi did not have permission to possess them.
Mahdi was identified and has been charged with fourth-degree possession of stolen property and three vehicle and traffic violations, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
