Utica police investigate shooting that led to accident at busy intersection

Utica Police continue to investigate a shooting that resulted in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of St. Anthony and Bleecker streets Wednesday.

Police said patrols were dispatched to the area on the east side of the city at about 6:30 p.m. for a report of an accident
involving a pickup and sedan in which a utility pole and fire hydrant were severed from the ground.

While en route, police said information was relayed that a shooting may have taken place as one person in the sedan was claiming to have been shot prior to him fleeing the scene with at least two others.

As patrol cars arrived to the accident scene, calls were received that a victim suffering from a gunshot wound was at a residence on the 300 block of Tilden Ave, with additional information learned that the actual shooting took place on the 500 block of St. Anthony St.

Ultimately it was learned that after the sedan was shot at on St. Anthony St., the vehicle fled toward Bleecker Street, where it entered the intersection and struck the pickup. The men fled to Tilden Avenue on foot, where they were all located, police said.

The shooting victim was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene, and National Grid performed repair work to the pole.

Utica Police are asking if anyone has information about the incident, they should contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 315-223-3510 or submit an anonymous tip online through Mohawk Valley Crime Stoppers at www.mohawkvalleycrimestoppers.com, by calling 1-866-730-8477 (TIPS), or by using the P3 Tips mobile app.

All calls will be confidential, according to the law enforcement officials.
