Utica man sentenced to 18 years in state prison
UTICA — A Utica man was sentenced to state prison for attempted murder after a woman was struck by gunfire on Miller Street, according to Oneida County Court.
Jahari Brown, age 22, was sentenced by Judge Robert L. Bauer Thursday morning to 18 years in state prison on a charge of attempted second-degree murder, and 15 years each in state prison on one count of attempted assault and two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon, court officials said. The sentences will run concurrently, and Brown was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision.
At 2:40 a.m. June 7, 2021, police said Brown opened fire at a residence in the 1500 block of Miller St. while several people were standing outside on the porch. An 18-year-old girl on the porch was shot in the lower back and she was treated at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, police stated.
Following an investigation, Brown was taken into custody in March 2022.
