UTICA — A 36-year-old man is accused of breaking into a garage on Miller Street Tuesday night and stealing a pair of television sets, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said Omar Thompson, of Utica, broke into the garage in the 1200 block around 10 p.m. and stole two TVs and several power tools. Police said Thompson was spotted dragging one of the TVs down the street and into a nearby yard.

When officers arrived on the scene, they said they found a camper in the yard and Thompson had barricaded himself inside. Police said Thompson refused to come out and negotiations to get him to surrender failed.

Officers then entered the camper by force and were able to take Thompson into custody, police said. Several stolen items were found inside the camper.

Thompson is charged with third-degree burglary and petty larceny, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
