Utica man charged with fentanyl possession at smoke shop
UTICA — A 25-year-old man has been charged with felony drug possession following a raid on Abu Hareth Smoke Shop on Albany Street in Utica, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said a search warrant was executed on the smoke shop on Aug. 9 and they seized 477 fentanyl tablets, 390 grams of marijuana, 43 Xanax bars and $721 in cash. A drug test confirmed the tablets contained 46 grams of fentanyl, and were made to look like oxycodone, authorities stated.
Evidence was presented to an Oneida County grand jury and Yaqoob M. Algahim, 25, of Utica, was indicted this week on one count each of third-degree possession of a controlled substance and second-degree use of drug paraphernalia, authorities stated. He was taken into custody at the smoke shop on Wednesday and he is scheduled to appear in Oneida County Court.
