UTICA — A Utica man was charged Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the burglary of a residence in the 300 block of Mary Street back in October, where guns and ammunition were stolen.

During the burglary investigation on Oct. 17, Utica Police learned that a large safe containing a long gun, handgun, ammunition and personal papers were stolen from the home.

Surveillance video was later obtained showing a vehicle in the vicinity just after the crime occurred, leading to possible suspect information. Police said the case was then assigned to the Utica Police Burglary Unit for further investigation.

Later, information was received by a member of the Patrol Division regarding the possible identity of the suspect that coincided with prior vehicle information, as well as the location of the weapons, police said. Investigators were then able to go to the location, and retrieved the handgun and ammunition.

Police said they were then able to locate suspect Charles Morrison, 32, of Utica, on Wednesday. Morrison was charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.

He is scheduled to appear in court.
