A 54-year-old Utica man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in the Cornhill district on Thursday, police said.
Police said they were dispatched to the intersection of Steuben and James streets at about 8 a.m. and found a 33-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. Police said the man was rushed to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for emergency surgery and he is expected to survive.
With the help of witnesses, police said they were able to identify 54-year-old Epifanio DeJesus, of Utica, as the triggerman. DeJesus is charged with one count each of attempted second-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in City Court.
Police said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are possible.
