Utica man charged in break-in

A Utica man is facing multiple charges for breaking into a home on Conkling Avenue by pushing in the air conditioner, according to law enforcement officials.

Police said Yasir Hamid, 20, pushed in the air conditioner and climbed in through the window of the residence in the 1400 block of Conkling Ave. at about 8:20 a.m. Wednesday. Police said the resident was home at the time, and Hamid started destroying property once inside.

The victim fled from the home, and authorities said Hamid jumped through a window to get out as well.

Once outside, police said Hamid started throwing rocks and bricks into the home. Police said he was confronted by other people on the street, at which point he pulled out a knife and began to threaten those around him. Police said Hamid eventually fled the scene on foot and was found a short time later.

Hamid is charged with one count of second-degree burglary and two counts of fourth-degree mischief, police stated. He is scheduled to appear in court.

Authorities said more charges are possible as the case remains under investigation.
