Utica man accused of threatening police officers with a knife
UTICA — A Utica man is accused of threatening several officers with a knife after trying to force his way into a Muslim synagogue on Rutger Street Friday morning, according to the Utica Police Department.
Police said Han San, 36, attempted to enter the Nurulislam Nabu Myanman Muslim Community Synagogue in the 600 block of Rutger Street around 10:50 a.m. Friday. Police said San had a knife and attempted to attack synagogue staff. They were able to lock the door and keep him outside.
When officers arrived, police said San threatened them with the knife and refused multiple orders to drop the weapon. Police said San approached the officers and one of them fired an electric stun gun, which was ineffective because of San's clothing.
San continued to advance on officers with the knife until police said he was finally brought down with a beanbag shotgun and a stun gun.
San is charged with three counts of menacing a police officer and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
