UTICA — Charges are pending against a Utica juvenile after he was found with a loaded handgun during a shooting investigation on Kemble Street Friday night, according to the Utica Police Department. The teen is not suspected in the shooting, police noted.

Police said they received a report of multiple shots fired in the area of Walker and Kemble streets at about 10:15 p.m., and then a male with a gunshot to his abdomen walked into a Utica hospital. Police said they were sent to a residence in the 1300 block of Kemble St., where it was learned that multiple rounds had been fired through a bedroom window, striking the victim.

His injuries are not considered life-threatening, police stated.

While searching the residence, police said they found a juvenile male with a loaded handgun. The male was taken into custody and the weapon was secured. Due to his young age, his identity was not released. Charges are pending against the male for the weapon, authorities said.

A further search of the residence found multiple spent shell casings in the back yard, police stated.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Major Crimes Unit at 315-223-3556. Anonymous tips can also be sent through the website www.MohawkValleyCrimeStoppers.com or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-866-730-8477.
