Utica honors Babe's staff and nurses for helping save choking patron

UTICA — The city of Utica has recognized several nurses and staff at Babe's at Harbor Point, 80 N. Genesee St., for saving a patron’s life. In July, a patron began to choke while dining at Babe's and the restaurant staff took quick action to address it. Conveniently, five off-duty nurses were dining at the restaurant and were just a few tables down from the patron. With the assistance from both the restaurant staff and the nurses, the patron was able to recover from choking.

In a post on their Facebook page, Babe's at Harbor Point wrote the following statement:

“We are proud to recognize the five nurses and our incredible staff who helped save a life at Babe’s on July 11. When a customer was choking, our staff immediately asked for help and the nurses were sitting a few tables away. We would like to thank Sue Horth, Carol O’Bryan, Barb Dylis, Deb Comito and Corrine Comito for their quick thinking and care. We are so proud of Omar Ruiz, Darrel Swift and Dorothy Penge from the Babe’s staff who took care of one of our favorite customers.”

In response to the swift actions of the off-duty nurses, as well as the restaurant staff, the city of Utica honored the nurses and the staff at the Utica Common Council meeting by establishing a proclamation thanking them for their professionalism and care.
