UTICA — Roger Rowlett skipped his team to victory at the Utica Curling Club’s recent annual Mixed Club Championship.

The A event finals last weekend was close throughout and an extra end was needed to determine a 7-6 final.

The three-day event included 11 teams and the top five qualify for the UCC’s Cobb Mixed International Bonspiel, which is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17 to Sunday, Feb. 20.  The club’s mixed championship started in 1956.

The members of the winning team include Rowlett, Michelle MacEnroe, Howard Feldman and Natalie Shelton.

The team is awarded Skip’s Mace trophy, which will be carried onto the ice by Rowlett at the beginning of the Cobb Bonspiel.

The runner-up trophy, the Searle Pitcher, was presented to a team including Mike Kessler, Anne Stuhlman, Mike DeGironimo and Liz Kaido and they will represent UCC in the Cobb Bonspiel.

A third team, skipped by Bob Caine, was awarded with the Rose Bowl.  The Mixed Tray was presented to the Tami Dunnigan team.

Brian Moore’s team was granted the Silver Tea Pot.
The Utica Curling Club is set to hold an Olympic Open House on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will conduct a curling school on the first three Sundays in March (March 6, March 13 and March 20).
