UTICA — Utica City FC has acquired defender Stefan Mijatovic from the St. Louis Ambush in exchange for future considerations.

The native of Elmhurst, Illinois, is playing in his sixth season in the MASL, and is joining his fifth team.

Mijatovic played collegiate soccer at Morraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, Illinois. He began his MASL career with the Chicago Mustangs, appearing in seven games in the 2016-17 season.

Mijatovic returned to the league with the Orlando SeaWolves for the 2018-19 season, making five appearances and then joined the Florida Tropics.

“I’m extremely excited to have Stef with us,” said Utica City FC head coach Hewerton Moreira. “He is a very talented and strong player that will help us on both ends of the field with his defense background and hard work. He’s got great speed, strength and also shooting ability. I coached him in the past and I really believe that he is coming to cause a very positive impact in our squad.”

For the last two seasons he has played for St. Louis. In 2021 he appeared in 13 games, tallying eight goals and three assists. So far this season, Mijatovic has played in six contests with three points (two goals).

Mijatovic said he is excited for the new opportunity. “I’m happy to be reunited with coach Hewerton, and play with a lot of familiar faces I already know. I’ve heard nothing but great things about this organization, and I’m thrilled to see what the future holds for us. I can’t wait to meet all the fans, and go to battle with all my new teammates this weekend. Let’s get to work.”

Utica City returns home to take on the Baltimore Blast at 2:05 p.m. Sunday.
