Utica City FC edged by Milwaukee


MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Utica City FC fell in the final seconds of Friday’s road game against the Milwaukee Wave. Milwaukee got the game-winning goal with eight seconds left to win 7-6.

The first quarter started with a pair of Wave goals. Alex Bradley and Daniel Mattos gave them a 2-0 lead five minutes in. Slav Ubiparipbovic got Utica City on the board at 6:19 of the first to get UCFC in the game.

The teams traded goals for the rest of the quarter with Ian Bennett scoring for Milwaukee and Cristhian Segura adding a tally for Utica City. Mikey Herrerra then scored for Milwaukee and Ubiparipbovic got another for Utica City. The Wave led 4-3 at the end of the first. It was the most goals scored in a first quarter this season for Utica City.

UCFC buried two in a row in the second quarter. Bo Jelovac got the first one to tie the game at four 2:56 into the quarter. Moises Gonzalez found the back of the net with two seconds left in the half, and UCFC carried a 5-4 win into the break.

It took 11 minutes into the second half for either team to score. Milwaukee’s Ian Bennett got the game tying goal at 11:29. In the fourth, Utica City scored its final goal. Gonzalez elevated in the box and kicked home the goal to give UCFC a 6-5 lead.

Milwaukee tied the game with another goal from Bennett with six attackers. With eight seconds remaining, Derek Huffman sent the ball to the top right corner of the cage to earn the 7-6 win for the Wave.

UCFC fell to 2-6 in the loss. They were outshot 31-25 in the loss. Utica City returns home Sunday against the Ontario Fury at 2 p.m. to celebrate Ted Lasso Day.
