UTICA — Utica City FC scored the first and last goals.

Unfortunately for the Major Arena Soccer League squad, the visiting St. Louis Ambush scored seven of the eight total goals in between that span.

It equaled a 7-3 setback for Utica in a Sunday matinee in St. Louis’ lone regular-season visit to the Adirondack Bank Center.

The loss was Utica’s second in as many games following a close home setback the previous weekend to the Empire Strykers. Utica topped the Mesquite Outlaws on Jan. 7.

Utica, which has seven home games remaining, is 2-3-0 overall at home this season under new coach Hewerton Moreira.

With the most recent setback, Utica is 3-6-0 overall. The team’s eight points are tied with St. Louis (3-4-1) for fifth place in the seven-team Eastern Division.

Baltimore — Utica’s next opponent in a home-and-home beginning with this Saturday’s meeting in Maryland — is in fourth with nine points. The teams are also scheduled to meet at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29 in Utica.

In the setback to St. Louis, veteran Gordy Gurson scored twice to give him a team-best 10 goals and MASL-leading 20 points. Cristhian Segura added two assists. Nilton Andrade also scored.

Andrew Coughlin finished with 13 saves for Utica in his ninth consecutive appearance this season.

William Eskay finished with a hat trick and was among four players to with three points for St. Louis.
