Utica City FC dropped a pair of games in Mexico, Friday 14-4 to the Chihuahua Savage then 11-5 Sunday against the Monterrey Flash.

On Sunday, UCFC trailed 3-0 at halftime but battled back in the third quarter. However, Monterrey had seven goals in the fourth quarter to close out the win.

UCFC began the comeback in the third. Geo Alves tallied an unassisted goal 15 seconds into the quarter. He buried a rebound off of Monterrey keeper Diego Reynoso and made it 3-1.

Monterrey answered with a goal then Dylan Hundelt scored Utica City’s second on a set piece where he found the ball right in the center of the box. After the hosts regained a three-goal lead for the Flash, UCFC’s Issak Somow tucked one home on an assist from Nilton de Andrade and UCFC trailed 5-3.

The fourth quarter was all Monterrey. Aside from a Bo Jelovac goal and two late tallies from Gordy Gurson, the Flash scored seven goals in the quarter. Jelovac received a pass from Cristhian, Segura, and served a nice chip into the goal to make it 6-4. Gurson’s two goals came in the final three minutes.

That loss came two days after Friday’s defeat that ended City’s four-game win streak.

To open the game Friday, Gurson sent a no-look pass to a wide open Taylor Bond to notch the first tally for the visitors four minutes in. A turnover led to an immediate counter-attack and goal for the hosts. Thirteen seconds later, Steven Fernandez settled into the back post and put UCFC back on top, 2-1. But it didn’t faze the Savage as they responded with two goals of their own 50 seconds apart. Chihuahua ended the first quarter up by a goal, 3-2.

Utica City came out in the second quarter firing on all cylinders, tying the game at 3-3 on a display of crisp passing and an easy finish from Nilton de Andrade. Once again, the Savage responded with two goals of their own to put themselves back on top.

Just 47 seconds into the quarter, Gurson found himself alone in front, tipping a ball bar down to bring UCFC within one. It was all Savage after that .

Utica City FC returns to home turf on March 12 against the Florida Tropics.
